Why I don’t support Yoruba presidency for 2023 – Seyi Makinde

The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Governor Seyi Makinde has disclosed his reason for objecting to a Yoruba presidency amidst the call for a southern president in 2023.
It’s no more news that the southern region is expected to produce the next president after the the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari for fairness to reign in the political environment.

He said restructuring of the country is more paramount than zoning the presidential position.

Speaking on BCOS TV, the governor made the statement while giving account of his one year stewardship as the governor of Oyo state.

“What we are fighting for is central to the development of this country. States should be able to enforce the laws in their states. People ask me about Yoruba Presidency and I say what we need now is not that but restructuring. I am not saying it is a magic bullet.

“We will still need to work hard. We need the support of the people. It’s not about zoning for the presidency. We need a country where people can actualise their dreams. People have legitimate reasons to be apprehensive about state policing so we need to address their concerns.”
